History of the breed:
Its origin dates from 1830, when the fighting sport between Bulldogs and bulls on England was at its peak. At the time, the sport lovers decided to create a breed even more agile and furious, which was also good on dog fights, since the sport against bulls was about to be prohibited. Mating the Bulldog with the Old English Terrier and the Spanish Pointer, the result was the base of the today's Bull Terrier.
But today's characteristics of the Bull Terrier are credited to breeders of the end of the last century, specially to a breeder named James Hinks. They refined his nature of a fighter dog and created dogs with longer head, straight legs, a more gracious appearance and more clever. Some suspect that Hinks obtained those characteristics with the mating ot the original Bull Terrier with Pointers and Dalmatians.
